The Police Department currently consists of 32 Sworn and non sworn personnel, 15 of whom are full time sworn officers, 10 part time sworn officers. Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for investigating all major crimes such as homicide, rape, robbery, burglary, arson, and kidnapping. Additionally, the division investigates other crimes that require specialized training or expertise, such as drug violations, vice crimes, forgery and fraud investigations. The Patrol Unit is charged with the primary responsibility for all law enforcement activities within the community. The Patrol Unit's mission is to preserve the peace, protect life and property against the effects of criminal activity and to ensure the safety of the motoring public by enforcing all traffic laws. The uniformed police officers are the most visible and readily identifiable representatives of the Village of Stone Park. They represent the Police Department's first responders to emergency and non-emergency situations 24-hours a day.
The Code Enforcement Unit (Assigned by the Village) is responsible for the inspection of publicly and privately owned residential buildings to assure that they meet the Minimum Housing Standards for the Village of Stone Park and to ensure safe and sanitary living conditions for all residents within the village limits. Communication Center (Norcomm 911 Dispatch) is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Norcomm Dispatch center answers all non-emergency phone calls to the Police Department as well as emergency phone calls to the Police and Fire Department, including E-911. They also answer emergency calls for Public Works and Water Departments after regular hours.
The Juvenile Unit is charged with the responsibility of addressing the complex issues of juvenile crime and victimization. Investigators in this unit work in partnership with families, schools, social service agencies, and the courts to protect and assist our youth. The Public Safety Unit serves to augment the regular police force in the event of a civil preparedness emergency. The Public Safety Unit provides extra eyes and ears for the Department. They are trained to observe and report conditions requiring the services of the regular police members. Wherever possible, they assist in non-enforcement and non-hazardous duties. We truly are thankful of the work of the Public Safety Unit as they offer their time and assistance to the Village and its people, free of charge. The Department currently has 26 volunteers that have donated approximately 5,000 hours over the past year. The program is designed to be responsive to community needs and will continue to recruit additional volunteers to expand the program. The Stone Park Public Safety Department is run by Chief Giuseppe (Joe) Capece, Deputy Chief Louis V. The Traffic Division Department places a high priority on traffic management recognizing that traffic/residential speeding is one of the greatest concerns of our residents. With a key priority of traffic enforcement with attention to issues that address citizen concerns and promotes accident reduction.
The Bike Patrol is a valuable resource that is in effect in the summer months. It allows access to areas not previously accessible by the conventional police cruiser. The bicycle patrol unit also increases communication between our officers and the citizens they encounter during their patrol; our bicycle patrol unit is staffed by The Public Safety Unit.
